Our Therapy Services

Speech Sound Disorders

Speech sound disorders impact individuals’ intelligibility of speech, which often leads to communication breakdown and frustration. Our speech-language pathologists are specialists in assessing and treating speech sound disorders by identifying potential underlying conditions, identifying patterns of errors, and assessing overall quality of speech sound production. Treatment of speech sound disorders includes treatment of the oral placement of the articulators (teaching individuals how to move the parts of the mouth correctly for each sound), remediation of patterns of errors that may have developed (phonological disorders), and treatment of apraxia of speech (using PROMPT and other methods).

Language Disorders

Language disorders can affect both comprehension of language (receptive language disorders), the ability to efficiently express oneself using language (expressive language disorders). Our speech-language pathologists have graduate-level training and ongoing continuing education in the assessment and treatment of language disorders.

Literacy Disorders

Dyslexia impacts the ability to read and write effectively, a necessary skill across the lifetime. Our speech-language pathologists have graduate-level education in the basis of language development, phonological processing, phonemic awareness, and other areas which impact the development of reading abilities. We utilize strategies from programs such as The Seeing Stars program (by Lindamood Bell), The Reading Works program, the Writing Road to Reading method, and other methodologies. We believe that individuals benefit from a structured, therapeutic approach to literacy development that is catered to their specific needs rather than a method based solely on the progression of programs not designed specifically for that individual.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) is used to compensate for speech and language deficits or supplement speech and language skills. AAC is a wide-ranging topic, ranging from the use of sign language or printed picture boards to the use of high-tech speech-generating devices. These systems are used by individuals for many reasons, including poor intelligibility of speech, expressive language disorders, voice disorders, or other conditions which impact the ability to produce oral speech effectively. Our speech-language pathologists are trained in the use of a wide variety of AAC modalities and have years of experience with the latest high-tech AAC systems, including eye gaze technology.

Feeding Disorders

Feeding disorders have a wide range of causes, symptoms, and severity. Some individuals experience severe picky eating due to sensory processing difficulties, while some develop picky eating due to behavioral concerns. Oral-motor deficits, or the ability to control the precise movements of the mouth needed to effectively chew and manage food, can impact feeding abilities. We offer feeding therapy by our speech-language pathologists who are pediatric feeding specialists trained (in graduate school and through the Feed the Peds program) in identifying feeding disorders and their cause to determine the best therapeutic protocol for each individual. Treatment of feeding disorders often involves a multi-disciplinary team including the patient and their caregivers, primary care physician, dietician, etc. We have years of experience coordinating care with other professionals across these multidisciplinary feeding teams.
